Sand Yachting in Le Touquet

The French call it ‘Le char á voile’, others know it as sand sailing, but whatever you call it this sport is absolutely thrilling. The fastest speed ever recorded is a mere 113mph - try that bouncing along the beach just 3” off the ground. This is yet another activity that Le Touquet is a real specialist in and is often host to major national tournaments. The basic objective of the sport is to speed over the extensive coastline on tightly packed sand just as fast as you can. Powered by wind and sail, sand yachts make little noise apart from the hum of the rapidly turning wheels. With 8 miles of continuous beach to go at why not give it a try.

The local club that organizes all the hire and lessons is always delighted to teach beginners or to hire out equipment to those with experience. They are situated on the beach at the southern end of Le Touquet sea front at:

Prices for adults i.e. 12 years upwards are as follows:

Discovery stage: Includes 2 hours going through how a sand yachts work - what to wear (gloves 3€) and initial trial for 44€ per person.

Single lesson After the ‘Discovery stage’ you may chose a single 2 hour lesson with instructor for 37€ per person or a

5 lesson package Includes ‘Discovery stage’ plus 4 * 2 hour lessons with instructor - total 161€ per person
