Les Pines Golf Course, Hardelot
(5871m, 6421yds, PAR 72) - Handicap Required
Le Pines was built at the turn of the 20th Century as part of the development of the Pas de Calais resorts. Designed by renowned architect Tom Simpson in 1905 and remodelled in 1931, Les Pines retains that english feel. Hardelot is set in a nature park, so this course weaves through outstandingly beautiful forests.
The first hole can be quite intimidating, but don't fret as the next 6 are more comfortable with some good oportunites for birdies along the way. 13 and 15 are by far the trickiest on the course. At first you will wonder what all fuss is about at 13, until you walk towards the green and see the lake on one side and over hanging trees on the other. 15 just seems to have so many natural hazards, from the pine forest, the bunkers and the bushes standing sentry around the elevated green. 18 is very special. Standing high you look down to the clubhouse behind the green. Hold your nerve and you will impress the members watching from the balcony!
The clubhouse offers all the features and facilities you would expect of a classy course. During those cold winter evenings the warm fire is a popular spot for some game analysis. In summer the balcony is the place to be for a cold beer while offering a critique of the swing of those still on the course. The restaurant serves up some good quality cuisine.
