La Mer Golf Course at Le Touquet
(Handicap Required)
La Mer is a special course, and probably the premier test in the area. Recently voted in the top 100 courses in Europe and host to several Pro Tour events. Course architect Harry Colt has created a traditional Scottish links in the sand dunes and rugged Cote d'Opal. Opened in 1931 and modernised on several occasions since, La Mer is well known for it's fast greens, heather and gorse.
As is the wont of the links course the weather plays a big part in the difficulty level, and in the wind La Mer can really take on a wicked personality all of its own. The opening 7 holes tease you in before unleashing a tricky run at 8,9 and 10. The 11th is a signature hole; the wind really can turn this into a monster, which when played well can be very satisfying. The run in to 18 is a little less tricky but all your efforts are rewarded on a spectacular finish at 18.
The clubhouse is renowned for its excellent hospitality and well equipped pro shop. Carts and caddies are available to hire. There's also a practice range and putting green onsite for that bit of extra work.
